This beautifully carved Sapele engraving is finished with Danish oil and food safe wax oil to protect the wood for years to come and bring out the best of the woods natural grain.

A finger labyrinth is a meditation, prayer or mindfulness awakening tool . Which can be used to calm and open the mind, both through use of the labyrinth and through holding the carefully shaped and smooth wood in your hands.

Here I quote from scientific research into the wonder of wood -

“Wood has properties, which makes it a restorative material. In previous studies, wood material has been shown to affect activity of human autonomic nervous system and to relieve stress. People have been shown to have more positive emotions in wooden rooms and the mere touching of wooden materials can have a calming effect."

The Chartres Labyrinth

The Chartres labyrinth pattern is based on the famous labyrinth that was inlaid into the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France in 1201 A.D. Also known as the Classical 11-Circuit design, many people travel to this Notre Dame cathedral to walk the pattern. This design is longer to traverse than the Cretan, and therefore the journey to the centre oftentimes will be deeper and more introspective than the Cretan design.

This piece was made by David a passionate wood artist, he creates from a thriving workshop in Somerset, England. He founded The Grain Attraction to embrace his love of working with wood. A natural material he has a passion for and connection at a soul level.

The central themes of his work are ancient symbols. Sacred geometry, and nature. All the wood used is either reclaimed or sourced from a local family run saw mill. Wood is chosen on a design by design basis to enhance the piece in harmony with the natural wood grain.

David’s work has sold locally, nationally and internationally. He hopes you enjoy his work as much as he enjoyed making it for you.
